On May 31, 2025, Assumption College of Davao (ACD) proudly participated in the renowned Archbishop Thibault Media Awards (ATMA)—an esteemed event celebrating media excellence and recognizing the creative spirit of student journalists and content creators.
Honoring Truth and Responsible Media
More than just an awards program, ATMA honors individuals and institutions that embrace the mission of truth-telling, peacebuilding, and love through responsible and values-based media. Named after Archbishop Clovis Joseph Thibault, PME, the first bishop and archbishop of Davao, the awards reflect a deep respect for his enduring legacy of faith, compassion, and leadership. Archbishop Thibault played a pivotal role in the transformation of the Davao prelature into a diocese and later into an archdiocese. His life and mission continue to inspire a new generation of Catholic communicators.
Uplifting Catholic Values Through Media
The Archbishop Thibault Media Awards seek to amplify stories that embody Catholic values, promoting a society founded on truth, justice, care, and compassion. The award categories recognize works addressing contemporary issues—from environmental advocacy and the dignity of the human person to family life, stewardship, and human rights—all deeply rooted in the Church’s mission in today’s world.
ACD’s Active Participation
ACD’s involvement in this landmark event was highlighted by the presence of esteemed representatives:
- Sr. Elvira Soleminio, m.a. – School President
- Sr. Marietta B. Banayo, m.a. – Apostolate Coordinator
- Marie Banluta – Basic Education Department PTA President
- Rezil Alderite – College Faculty Member
One of the evening’s most memorable highlights was a soulful performance by ACD faculty member Mr. Dandie Fernandez, who performed his original composition “Isang Pilipinas.” This moving tribute to unity, hope, and national identity beautifully echoed the event’s themes.
Commitment to Faith-Driven Media
ACD demonstrated its unwavering dedication by serving as a PATRON of the Archbishop Thibault Media Awards, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing faith-driven and socially responsible media practitioners. Additionally, the ACD-PTA extended generous support as a DONOR, further affirming the community’s shared mission in upholding Catholic values through media.
Furthermore, Dr. Elsa D. Villanueva, ACD’s Vice President for Formation and Student Services, played a crucial role in the event as a member of the ATMA Steering Committee, offering her leadership and insights in the planning and execution of this meaningful occasion.
Championing Media as a Force for Good
This year’s Archbishop Thibault Media Awards not only celebrated creative talent but also reinforced the deeper purpose of media as a force for good. As a Catholic educational institution, Assumption College of Davao remains steadfast in forming storytellers who inspire transformation, promote truth, and reflect the heart of the Church in all their works.
