ACD-Davao City, November 15, 2023: Against the backdrop of recent earthquake-related activities and a notable fire incident in Davao City, the Assumption College of Davao—College Department took a proactive step in improving the preparedness of its student body. The Office of Student Affairs (OSA), in collaboration with the Safety and Security Office (SSO), recently organized a dynamic seminar on disaster preparedness. The event, held at the ACD Gymnasium on November 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, drew a strong response from college students across various programs and levels, eager to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate emergencies.
The seminar, themed “Surviving the Flames and Shakes: Protecting What Matters Most,” gained heightened significance in the wake of recent earthquake-related activities that rattled Davao City and a recent fire incident that underscored the importance of being prepared for unforeseen disasters. These incidents served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of emergencies and the need for individuals to be well-versed in disaster response protocols.
The participation of two resource persons from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) SPMC Station, SFO1 Rollylex P. Orosio, and FO1 Cedmer Paul C. Dela Cruz provided a timely and relevant perspective. Their expertise became even more crucial as they shared insights and strategies for dealing with the aftermath of fires, emphasizing the critical role of preparedness in mitigating damage and ensuring the safety of individuals.
The College Disaster Preparedness Seminar’s success paves the way for a more resilient college community. Given recent events, the seminar becomes a cornerstone in building a culture of preparedness that extends beyond the classroom. With an empowered and informed student body, ACD is better positioned to face future challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of its community members.
The seminar not only addressed the immediate need for preparedness in light of recent events but also laid the foundation for an ongoing commitment to safety and resilience within ACD. As Davao City continues to struggle with the aftermath of recent shaking and fires, the importance of such proactive initiatives becomes increasingly evident, emphasizing that knowledge and preparedness are invaluable assets in safeguarding what matters most.
